From north and south, east and west, hundreds of gourmet ramp eaters will come to Chloe this weekend to enjoy
West Virginia's famous spring delight.
Ramp diggers have returned to the mountains today and likely tommorow to obtain the glorified onion. The first trip was hampered by a spring snow.
The annual Upper West Fork Ramp Dinner will dish out plates of cooked ramps and all
the fixins' for folks to savor the mountain delicacy.
Serving starts at 4 pm.
A documentary TV company, Golden Lion Media of Virginia, will be at the ramp dinner for part of a documentary they are doing on seasonal foods of the
Appalachians.
To that end, the producer Steve Provence will be attending the ramp dinner with a camera crew to catch the
"flavor" of the event.
He will be soliciting stories, recipes, and recollections of past dinners. So, if you're a regular at the ramp dinner, you might want to share your story.
Virtually every political candidate running for public office will be attending, campaigning.
Some ramps are
cooked, some are raw and some are mixed with other fine food.
Volunteers will spend hours working on the food, preparing ramps,
frying chicken and ham with heaps of potatoes. Then there is dessert.
Regional residents can exit the Big Otter exchange on I-79 and travel a short distance north on State Route 16 to Chloe and the Upper West Fork Park.
The proceeds go to benefit the Upper West Fork Park and Fire Department.
