The current U.S. Drought Monitor indicates portions of West Virginia are experiencing extreme conditions.
Extreme drought conditions and low soil moisture has been recorded in Calhoun, Jackson, Kanawha, Mason, Putnam and Roane counties.
Recent rainfall has brought other parts of the Tri-State to moderate levels, but nearly 100% of West Virginia is under a drought.
Calhoun's last big drought was in the late 1990s.
