Calhoun County has spawned several thousand graduates from Calhoun County High School, now Calhoun Middle-High School, going into the big world and making their mark.
While doing the Hur Herald over 25 years, we made a couple of serious efforts to reach out and capture their stories, with a little bit of success.
We learned of the death of David "Dave" Olin Barrows, 78, of Camp Hill PA, a Calhoun native and graduate of CHS Class of 1963, the son of longtime owners and editors of the Calhoun Chronicle, Olin and Mary Ann Barrows.
He earned a bachelors degree from the University of Charleston and a masters from Marshall University, teaching at MU for several years, and then getting a doctorate degree at the University of Nebraska, then earning a living in the world of electronics.
It was my privilege to know him, being a longtime friend of his mother Mary Ann Barrows.
Dave was a group of fledgling Calhoun boys and girls with endless curiosity, a trait that the late school teacher Don McCartney said will allow them to succeed.
