We have declared this Eddie Austin Kerby Day, remembering the county's most noteworthy eccentric.

Recently discovered are some poems he copyrighted in the early 1940s, published below for the first time, the original copy submitted by a relative in 2022.

Calhoun's Eddie Austin Kerby, in his book, was thoroughly convinced that the USA would be "ruled by monopolies (in sheep's clothing), dictators (in sheep's clothing) and vote buyers (in sheep's clothing)," and issued dozens of warnings to readers about the death of American democracy.

Kerby's pronouncements started in the 1930s, his insight came directly from God, he said.

Could he have been on to something?

Read about 40 attempts made on his life and his plan for world peace.
