MURDER - A Wayne County man has been charged after deputies said they found the body of his wife locked in the trunk of a vehicle in Prichard.
Donald Herald has been charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a deceased body after his wife, Marcella Herald, was found dead in the trunk of a vehicle in the 600 block of Centerville Road on Wednesday, according to a criminal complaint filed in Wayne County Magistrate Court.
Deputies said Marcella Herald was reported missing Tuesday by a family member who said she had not heard from her since Sept. 11, the complaint said. When deputies arrived at the residence on Wednesday with a search warrant, they said a strong odor was found coming from a silver Pontiac GTO parked on the property. Marcella Heraldâs body was found locked in the trunk.
In a statement to deputies, Donald Herald said the couple got into an argument about three or four weeks ago and he struck her with his fist, the complaint said. He said he didnât remember anything else until he woke up the next morning and found Marcella not breathing.
Donald Herald told deputies he panicked and moved her body to a room in the home before putting it in a sleeping bag and locking it in the trunk of the vehicle, the complaint said.
