The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed 2,135 new COVID-19 cases and 17 additional deaths in its report on Sept. 16.

Calhoun has 11 new cases Thursday, 45 new cases since last Friday, with the reported death of a 73-year-old Calhoun woman.
First and second person reports say that a number of Calhoun citizens have barely escaped death, with a number still in ICUs and on a ventilator. Some of the survivors have been left with debilitating health problems.
Last Friday, Calhoun hit a record high with 37 new cases reported in one day.
With Calhoun Schools reopening to in-person Thursday, the largest number of new cases are among children and the 30-50 age group, according to the state web site. All Calhoun schools require masking.
WV school systems are facing enormous political pressure to "return to normal" with in-person schooling.
West Virginia is leading the nation with rapid spread and the most citizens not vaccinated.
According to the DHHR dashboard, there are currently 28,773 active cases.
