Challenge at Mountwood High School/Middle School Race - April 5th, 2003
The first WV Mountain Bike Association Youth Series Race took off at noon yesterday at Mountwood Park near
Parkersburg. Ten racers representing 4 schools competed in three race classes - Varsity (grades 9-12), Junior Varsity
(grades 9&10) and Middle School (grades 5-8).
Matt McDonald and Hank Hendrix of Parkersburg took first and second place in the Varsity class, followed by Lori Ware
and Caleb Haynie, both members of Clay County HS's Mud Mashers.
Dallas Stutler, another Clay County HS Mud Masher, was the sole racer in the Junior Varsity class.
In the Middle School class, Randy Ramsey (Clay) finished first, Cai Clothier (Calhoun) second, then Paul Brown and David
Haynie (Clay), followed by Dalton Hodge (Worthston Elementary). Cai Clothier, a 5th grader, also races for the WV
Mountain Bike Racing Team.
This race series is designed to introduce students to the sport of mountain biking through competition is short cross country
races - the Mountwood Race was about 3 miles for the Middle School & JV Racers, and about 5 for the Varsity.
Be at Mountwood Park on Sunday, April 6th at 10 a.m. for the WVMBA Kid's Races - these short races are for kids 12
and under (6 & under, 7&8, 9&10, and 11&12) - and it's FREE! The feature WVMBA Point Series Race starts off at
noon, with a course of 6 to 18 miles, depending upon race class. Mountwood Park is located about 12 miles east of
