Coronavirus hospitalizations in West Virginia have passed 800 and are nearing the record total for the pandemic.
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources updated its hospitalization data after the initial report around 10 a.m. Wednesday. According to the data, 813 patients are in hospital with the virus, including 252 in intensive care and 132 on ventilators.
Un-vaccinated children are the highest case group.
Intensive care unit patients and patients on ventilators are both at record numbers for the pandemic. The pandemic record for COVID hospitalizations is 818, which was reached in January 2021.
West Virginia health officials reported 18 new COVID-19 deaths in Wednesdayâs update and 1,352 new positive cases.
Active COVID-19 cases were 22,215, according to the state Department of Health and Human Resources. The daily positivity rate increased from 14.55% Tuesday to 17.96% Wednesday, while the cumulative positivity rate went from 5.35% to 5.38%. |
