West Virginia health officials reported 13 COVID-19 deaths and 1,448 positive cases over the last 24 hours.
Calhoun and several regional counties are reporting a record number of cases, with Calhoun having 26 new cases since last Friday, some of them in Intensive Care, plus cases from last week.
Reports indicate that few people in rural areas are wearing masks.
Mask wearing, starting Thursday, is being mandated by Calhoun Schools.
The state Department of Health and Human Resources reported 12,736 active cases in the state on Thursday.
The latest deaths bring the total to 3,049 since the start of the pandemic.
The DHHR reported there were 526 hospitalized in the state with COVID, including 178 in intensive care and 76 on ventilators.
The stateâs cumulative positive test rate was at 5.11% on Thursday. The daily positive test rate decreased from 9.45% Wednesday to 8.87% Thursday.
Delta variant cases of the coronavirus were at 561, likely under-reported.
The stateâs data shows 0.49% of fully vaccinated people in the state have gotten COVID. The data also shows 0.007% of those who are fully vaccinated have died from the virus.
