SOARING: TUESDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - 785 New Cases Tuesday, 11,000 Active WV Cases - Calhoun Has 12 New Cases Since Last Friday

Active cases of COVID-19 and hospitalizations due to the virus both rose in the latest report from the state Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) on Tuesday.

Calhoun has 12 new cases since last Friday.

The DHHR confirmed 10,980 active cases, the most since over 11,000 on February 14, 2021. 785 new cases were added on Tuesday in the past 24 hours.

Two weeks into school year, 210 active COVID-19 cases among Kanawha students or staff with Capital High shut down. One year ago Gov. Justice dropped the Harvard COVID-19 map, allowing high school football games with his state created map.

Hospitalizations due to the virus are now at 491, the most since over 500 on January 28, 2021. There are currently 169 of those patients being treated in intensive care.

The DHHR reported one death on Tuesday, a 42-year old male from Berkeley County. The statewide death total due to COVID-19 is 3,017.

The DHHR lists confirmed Delta variant cases statewide at 470, likely under-reported.
