It's the real deal, the 61st Mt. Zion Ox Roast - pit-roasted beef slowly cooked in an earthen pit for hours, to be served in scrumptious, mouth-watering dinners or sandwiches.
The event is Saturday at the Mt. Zion Community Park at 11 a.m. through 5 p.m. on August 28, celebrating memories and looking forward to the future.
The week will start off on Monday August 23 at 9:00 am to clean the pit and on Friday morning workers will meet to start the fire at 6:00 am and it will need tended and stoked throughout the day. Between 5 and 6 pm they will cut and wrap the meat and place it in the pit.
On Saturday, the work starts around 9:00 am with set up of the serving line and getting things ready to start serving at 11:00 am and serve until 5:00 pm and close out the day with the annual auction.
All crafters, at no charge, are welcome to come and set a table/canopy to sell local non food items. Organizers are asking for an item to be donated for the fair and auction.
As in years past, they need cakes to serve, tomatoes to slice and fair exhibits. (Garden vegetables, canned goods, craft items and misc.) Fair items will be judged and a grand prize ribbon will awarded along with a roast from the pit.

The park has been a welcoming presence in the community, the site of hundreds of reunions, events and special occasions these past 60 years +.
