Martha Carpenter Looney Ash, 83, of Spencer WV passed away on Tuesday, March 16th, 2021 at her home in Spencer after an extended illness.
Martha was a generous, kind, and devout Christian woman and we were blessed to have her as a mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband Lawrence Ash and his three children Randy Ash, Kim Starcher, and Sheila "Dink" Elias; children Sheila (Dave) Thomas of Spencer, Beverly (Jon) Talbott of Champaign IL, Kevin (Marcia) Looney of Bolton CT, and Julia (Mike) May of Knoxville TN; grandchildren David (Missy) Thomas of Papillion NE, Matthew Thomas of St. Petersburg FL, Sarah (Adam) Chladny of Thompson's Station TN, Becca (Josh) Terrio of Champaign IL, Emily (Brandon) McKinney of Savoy IL, Laura (Erik) Persson of Stony Creek NY, Robert "Alex" Looney of Bolton CT, Dalton May of St. Paul MN, and Ashley May of Knoxville TN, as well as 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ellis Carpenter and Golah Miller Carpenter; her husband of 40 years, Claude Looney, her granddaughter Krystal Thomas, siblings Maxine Wines, Betty Dailey, Clifford Carpenter, Edmund Carpenter, Edward Carpenter, Frederick "Bill" Carpenter, Charles Carpenter, Nancy Yoder, Mary Carpenter, and Larry Carpenter.
For many years, Martha and her husband Claude owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Spencer. She was active in her church as a member of Faith Baptist Church in Spencer.
A private service will be held for the family. Burial will follow in Ward Cemetery in Spencer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Martha Ash to the Faith Christian Academy at 237 Arnoldsburg Rd., Spencer WV 25276.
