Proposed Main Street site for new town building
Grantsville Mayor Gary Knight has endorsed a plan for a new town hall. Businessman
Steve Satterfield has wanted to build a new convenience store on the town property
for several years, but his proposals have been rejected. Knight now describes
Satterfield's proposal as "a win-win situation for both parties."
Knight said "We would like a change of facilities and it would be a boon to the
town."
The Council unanimously passed a motion in June, 2000, they "would never be
interested in entertaining the trade between Steve Satterfield and the town."
Satterfield has proposed a deal which involves purchasing the old town hall and
property and erecting a new building for the town on a lot he owns on Main
Street.
The current town building is in disrepair, according to Knight. "It would cost a great
deal of money to get the building to a safe standard," he said.

Knight distributed copies of a proposed contractual agreement by Satterfield to
Council members on March 4th. He asked Council if they wanted to pursue the
exchange of property and enter into further discussion. The motion passed, three
members voting for with one abstention.
The issue will be discussed at the next Council meeting on April 7th.
