West Virginiaâs official death total from the coronavirus jumped to more than 2,500 on Friday after previously unreported deaths were added.
The state Department of Health and Human Resources said in a news release the 173 deaths reported in the last 24 hours includes 165 previously unreported deaths and eight new deaths.
West Virginiaâs current death total related to the pandemic is now at 2,511.
DHHR officials said 346 new virus cases were reported in the last 24 hours. Active cases dropped 25 and were listed at 5,280.
The stateâs cumulative positive test rate continues to inch down and was 5.34%, down from 5.36% in the previous report. The daily positive test rate, 2.79%, also decreased from the previous report when it was 3.23%.
Hospitalizations also were down two at 159, with 59 in intensive care and 22 on a ventilator. The patient total is the lowest it has been since September 2020. Recoveries are at 127,051.
