THURSDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - 338 NEW CASES

(03/12/2021)
Eight more COVID-19-related deaths were reported in West Virginia, but hospitalizations have dipped to the lowest total since Sept. 15, 2020.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed in a news release Thursday the death of a 79-year-old man from Clay County.

West Virginia’s death total as of Thursday was at 2,338, but that number will rise by at least 168 on Friday when the DHHR officially adds previously unreported deaths to the state’s death total. Gov. Jim Justice announced the previously unreported deaths Wednesday during his coronavirus news conference.

Meanwhile, hospitalizations continue to go down and were at 161, with 50 in intensive care and 23 on a ventilator. This is a decrease of 17 total patients from the previous report and is the lowest total since Sept. 15, 2020, when there were 156 patients.

DHHR officials reported 338 new virus cases in the past 24 hours. Active cases dropped 55 cases and were at 5,305. Recoveries are at 126,853.
