Dennis Deitz, who began his career as an author iafter his retirement and went on to write 15 books about West Virginia
history and ghosts, has died. He was 89. Deitz was well-known to the area, after working for Union Carbide and the John
Amos power plant.
He retired at age 70 and began writing and publishing. He wrote a novel, two children's books and a collection of short
stories. He's known for his three compilations of ghost stories published under the "Greenbrier Ghost" series and for the
"Mountain Memories." He also wrote about the Buffalo Creek flood of 1972, the Paint Creek flood of 1932 and the Cabin
Creek floods of 1916.
