It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jane Ann McKee Hardman, devoted mother and grandmother, lifelong educator, and cherished member of the community on December 18, 2020.
Jane was born on July 18, 1958 in the Ben Avon suburb of Pittsburgh, PA and was proud to call Roane County her home.
Jane is preceded in death by her father, Ralph D. McKee; mother, Ann McKee; and brother, Scott McKee.
She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Tom Hardman; sister, Elizabeth McKee Beswick (Paul); sister-in-law, Jackie McKee; sons, Thomas Hardman (Kelsey) of Wheeling, Andrew Hardman (Jeannine) of Aliquippa PA, and Derek Hardman (Brittany) of Canfield OH; niece, Courtney Oliver; nephews, Kent McKee, Clifton McKee, Robert Beswick, and Glenn Beswick; grandchildren, Savannah Jo Hardman, Sawyer James Hardman, Easton Lane Hardman, and Liesl Gold Hardman; âUncleâ Huck Hardman; her dogs, Sadie & Scout âPee-Weeâ and grand-dogs.
Jane, a Roane County teacher for her entire career, was a graduate of Edinboro University, She traveled to WV to begin her career in education at Walton High School in 1980. Jane moved on to teach at Walton Primary, Spencer Middle and lastly, Spencer Primary. She retired from Roane County Schools in 2010. Jane took great pride in being a teacher of young people. She was a passionate, dedicated educator who treasured the opportunity to positively impact the lives of her students and valued the lifelong friendships of her many colleagues, including her best friend, walking partner and fellow fourth-grade teacher, Diane Zdanek (Bob).
Jane was a member of the St. Johnâs United Methodist Church congregation. Jane and Tom resided in the Green Acres neighborhood of Spencer before making their familyâs permanent home on Oak Drive Addition. Jane was a devout supporter of Roane County Schools, Roane County Athletics and any team that featured her sons or her husband on the sideline. She traveled extensively for football games, near and far, and her fervent cheers were easily distinguished amongst crowds of hundreds or thousands. Her greatest delight was supporting her boys in any and all endeavors.
Jane was a lover of ice cream and blueberries, and avid, enthusiastic and extensive reader, and a friend to wildlife and all things outdoors. She was an athlete-a field hockey player, a graceful swimmer, a unicyclist, and a hiker. She worshipped the sun and treasured the spring and summer months-and their warmth-as much as she despised the cold. She loved nothing more than a sunny day spent with her family, and sunbathed on white beaches from Florida to Maine. She especially cherished moments spent with her beloved dogs on her stone-lined, well-worn walking trail behind her home.
A public memorial service will be held in Janeâs honor on a date to be determined in the coming spring or summer months (post-COVID restrictions). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Janeâs name to the Roane County Animal Shelter or the Roane County Library in Spencer.
John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is in charge of arrangements.
