CREW BEGINS CLEANING PARK TRAILS - "We Really Need Help"

(03/24/2003)

The warm weather helped volunteers start cleaning the walking and bike trails at Calhoun County Park Saturday. Diann Clothier said about a dozen folks turned out with chain saws and equipment to start the project.

The recent ice and snow storm brought down trees and limbs across the trails.

"The crew attacked the trails with chain saws and were able to get about half of it done," said Clothier. Most of Saturday's work focused on the "Boy Scout" Trail, looping around the back of the park.

Another work day will be held this coming Saturday. "We really need help. So if you have a little time bring your saw and equipment and give us a hand," she said. Work usually starts about 8 a.m.

One of the big spring events at the park is the Appalachian Bike Classic. This year's race will be even more spectator friendly, due to the number of fallen trees.
