The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed 1,425 new COVID-19 cases and nine additional deaths in its report on Sunday. This is the fifth consecutive day more than 1,000 new cases have been announced.
The DHHR announced 1,400 new cases and 30 additional deaths on Saturday.
Half of WV's schools are closed to in-person classes.
The report from the DHHR stated that as of 10 a.m. on Sunday, December 6, there have been a total of 1,214,692 (+7,692) laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 54,997 (+1,425) total cases and 838 (+9) of those cases resulting in deaths.
According to the DHHRâs COVID-19 dashboard, there are currently 19,077 (+788) active cases and 35,082 (+628) recovered cases in the state.
