West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources officials reported nearly 900 new positive COVID-19 cases Wednesday in the past 24 hours and seven additional virus deaths.
West Virginia health officials are reporting the highest single-day total of COVID-19 cases at 885.
The stateâs death total is now at 553 and the total number of positive cases is 30,201 since the pandemic started. There are 7,771 active cases.
West Virginia's positive test rate was 3.11%. The daily positive test rate was 5.90%, which is an increase from 4.86% on Tuesday. More than 871,000 COVID-19 tests have been conducted.
As for hospitalizations, 277 people are in the hospital in the state, with 85 in intensive care and 28 on a ventilator.
Thereâs a COVID-19 outbreak at a McDowell County correctional facility, with
38 inmates and 11 staff members at the Stevens Correctional Center in Welch have tested positive for the virus.
