COVID-19 cases are on the rise in 43 states with West Virginia officials watching rising national covid numbers with increasing concern.
West Virginiaâs death total and hospitalizations related to coronavirus continued to climb Monday morning.
The state Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed in a news release the death of an 87-year-old woman from Marshall County.
West Virginiaâs death total associated with the virus now stands at 424.
Meanwhile, hospitalizations have climbed to a new high in the state â at 215 as of Sunday. According to the state agencyâs website, 71 were being treated in intensive care and 23 were on a ventilator. Recoveries were up 114 and were listed at 16,768.
Roane County has now topped 100 cases.
West Virginia University at Parkersburg, eight students, staff and/or faculty members have received positive test results for COVID-19 in the last week,
all face-to-face instruction is temporarily suspended on both campuses for a period of two weeks.

On top of that, hospitalizations have increased by 40% in the last month, with some 41,000 people hospitalized. Additionally, deaths are slowly beginning to creep up, with a 12% increase seen over the last 14 days.
WV-DHHR officials said there were 317 new cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 22,223. Active cases jumped 202 and were at 5,031.
The stateâs cumulative positive test rate was at 2.85%, down slightly from 2.87% The daily positive test rate was at 1.28%.
