Mental Hygiene case turns violent toward police
Calhoun County Sheriff Jeff Starcher encountered significant violence Wednesday morning with a 6' 2" male, age 26, that was being served a mental hygiene warrant.
Officers went to a residence about two miles west of Grantsville on Rt. 5 (Little Kanawha Parkway) following a report of problems.
The man was tased.
State Police officers went to the scene to assist.
Sheriff Starcher had his shirt ripped, minor cuts to his head, and his glasses broken, taking him into custody.
"In 13 years on the job, this was the most intense and violent physical altercation I've been in," said Starcher.
Following a mental hygiene hearing before Magistrate Rick Postalwait, the subject was taken to a regional mental health facility Wednesday night.
