Oren Clifford Walker, 98, passed away October 6, 2020 at Miletree Center in Spencer WV.
He was born August 1, 1922, the fifth of six children of Asbury and Esta Jones Walker of Little Creek.
Oren graduated from Spencer High School and enlisted in the US Navy during World War II where he served as a radio technician. Most of his adult life was spent in the Spencer area where he ran the family farm and later owned and operated Walkerâs Market for several years with his wife Florence.
He was an avid amateur radio operator with call letters WB8WKL and later KE8EJ. Oren also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was most content standing knee-deep in the Cranberry River with a feisty rainbow trout on his line.
In addition to his parents, Oren was preceded in death by brothers, Bill and Ed Walker and sisters, Ernestine Stotts and Eloise Taylor. He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Garrett Simmers.
Survivors include Orenâs wife of 77 years, Ethel Florence Walker of Miletree Center in Spencer; a daughter, Beverly Jett (Larry) of Atlanta GA and son Steve (Janet) Walker of Kingsport TN; two granddaughters, Mendy Simmers (Eddie) of Kingsport and Megan Schwarte (Jens) of Miami Shores FL; three great-grandsons, Grant Simmers and Nolan and James Schwarte; and a sister, Grace Hinkle of VA.
The life or Oren Walker will be remembered and honored at a graveside committal service on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fox Cemetery near Grace Community.
