Oria B. âJRâ Simmons, 75, of Vienna, WV, passed away October 1, 2020 at his residence.
He was born September 23, 1945 in Calhoun County, WV, a son of the late Oria B., Sr. and Wilma Whipkey Simmons. He was a U.S. Army veteran and owned and operated Cherokee Village Auto Center. He enjoyed stockcar racing, drag racing and was a driver.
JR is survived by his wife, Beth Simmons; a daughter, Tina Congleton (Keith) of Lancaster, OH; a son, Jimmy Simmons (Bobbi) of Belpre; four sisters, Evelyn Baxter, Linda Metz, Lois Galbraith and Shirley Clelland; a brother, Mickey Simmons, Sr.; five grandchildren, Josh and Adam Tonkin; Lauryn and Jordyn Simmons and Brent Congleton; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, JR was preceded in death by five brothers, Howard, Wayne, Harlan, James and Larry Simmons; and one sister, Alberta Simmons.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg with John Longfellow officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with full military rites by American Legion Post #15 of Parkersburg. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
