The Calhoun County Sheriff's Department now has prisoner barriers or "vehicle partitions", in all of it's cruisers. Sheriff Jeff Starcher stated that he was able to acquire the partitions at no expense to the county through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
The CARES Act is a reimbursement program for governmental subdivisions state, county, and city governments. Through the CARES Act, governmental agencies can be reimbursed for COVID-19 personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves and masks, barriers, partitions, and cleaning and sanitizing materials.
Sheriff Starcher stated that the prisoner barriers are manufactured with solid construction, consisting of a steel body and plexiglass window upper half. According to Sheriff Starcher, in addition to increased officer safety, this results in the vehicle partitions to be classified as personal protective equipment (PPE) amid the COVID-19 situation, reducing the chances of COVID-19 transmission to officers, and resulting in a solid barrier that can be cleaned and sanitized between officers and prisoners.
"Calhoun County is very blessed to have acquired these barriers. We take the safety and security of our law enforcement personnel very seriously.", said Sheriff Jeff Starcher. |
