TUESDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT: 180 NEW CASES, EIGHT DEATHS

Eight more coronavirus-related deaths were reported Tuesday morning in West Virginia, including three in Putnam County.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed in a news release the deaths of a 70-year-old man from Logan County, a 70-year old man from Putnam County, a 79-year-old woman from Wyoming County, a 73-year-old man from Berkeley County, an 81-year-old woman from Putnam County, an 84-year-old woman from Putnam County, a 73-year-old man from Monroe County and a 78-year-old woman from Taylor County.

West Virginia’s death total associated with the virus is now at 345.

Tucker County on remote instruction with 26 employees quarantined through contact tracing.

Spencer Elementary school closed with cases.

41 Huntington High students and staff in quarantine after possible COVID-19 exposure.

Roane County has new cases, total number 52.

Clay County cases continue to rise, total number 36, with two deaths.

Recent new cases in Wirt, total 12.

In Kentucky, Governor Andy Beshear says the state is reporting its highest total of new positive coronavirus cases since March 6, now including 157 kids under the age of 18.

State’s cumulative positive test rate was at 2.75%, the same as the previous day. The daily positive test rate was at 3.45%.

Hospitalizations were at 172, up four from the previous day, with 53 in intensive care and 29 on a ventilator. Recoveries were up 145 and were at 11,333.

Meanwhile, on the latest county alert map posted on the DHHR website (map colors as of Monday), there were three counties in orange - Kanawha, Boone and Barbour. Boone County had been in gold the previous day.

There were five counties in gold - Wayne, Lincoln, Wyoming, Summers and Upshur.
