Active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia approached 4,000 in numbers released Monday morning by the state Department of Health and Human Resources.
The official number of active cases is 3,987. The DHHR reported 164 new cases Monday.
A national ranking of estimate rate of spread of the virus shows West Virginia significantly decreasing. The Rt Value was .98 Monday morning, the 15th lowest in the nation. The state was at the top or near the top of the list for most of September.
The daily COVID-19 alert map currently only has two counties, Kanawha and Barbour, in the âorangeâ category. There were no counties in the highest category, âred,â to begin the week.
Counties in the âgoldâ include Upshur, Summers, Wyoming, Logan, Boone and Wayne counties. Fourteen counties were âyellowâ and 33 âgreen.â
The state added three deaths Monday bringing the total to 337. The deaths are of a 70-year old male from Kanawha County, a 77-year old female from Taylor County, and a 92-year old male from Berkeley County.
