| Spencer Elementary School in Roane County will be closed Tuesday after two confirmed positive COVID-19 cases.
The Roane County school system said in a news release Monday that the cases involved one student and one staff member from the same family.
School officials said custodial staff will perform a cautionary cleaning of the building Monday evening using specialized sanitizing equipment, and the school will be closed Tuesday to all students and staff.
The confirmed cases are believed to have resulted from family interactions, as the individuals were tested after another family member tested positive, and not from infection transmissions within the school.
The school system is urging everyone to follow social distancing, hand washing and cleaning guidelines.
