WV is not a state that mails ballots to all registered voters. In West Virginia to receive an absentee ballot we must have the signature of the voter. Usually this is done by completing a paper absentee ballot application. But, this year there is a new way to request an absentee ballot.
You can go to  GOVOTEWV.com  and complete the application on line. But, as in the case of the paper form, we must have your signature requesting the ballot. You can sign by using the mouse on your computer, and if using your phone or iPad you can use a stylus or your finger.
If you do not have access to a computer, just call the clerkâs office at 304-354-6725 and we will be glad to mail you an application.
The county clerkâs office will begin mailing out absentee ballots on September 18, 2020. The last day to request an absentee ballot is October 28th but we encourage voters who are going to vote by absentee to request early so we can get the ballot to you as soon as possible.
When ballots are received back in the county clerkâs office the signatures on the outside of the envelope are compared to the voterâs signature that is on file with your voterâs registration.
In West Virginia absentee ballots are counted if they are received by the day of canvass which is five days after the election. This year that day will be November 9th.
If you elect to early vote â October 21-October 31 â or vote on Election Day, November 3rd, you will be required to show some type of identification. This has been the requirement since January 1, 2018. Following is a list of acceptable identifications.
