The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued two flash flood watches Friday evening for parts of West Virginia, northeast Kentucky and southeast Ohio.
The weather service said a flash flood watch is in effect from late Friday through Saturday afternoon for Kanawha, Cabell, Putnam, Jackson, Calhoun, Doddridge, Mason, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Wirt and Wood counties.
The weather service said thunderstorms are expected Friday night through Saturday afternoon and torrential rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will be possible and could cause flash flooding.
A flash flood watch also has been issued from 5 p.m. Friday through late Friday night for Boone, Lincoln, Logan, McDowell, Mingo, Wayne and Wyoming counties in West Virginia.
Boyd, Carter and Lawrence counties in Kentucky are also under that flash flood watch.
Drivers should be alert for high water. Creeks, streams and water overflowing ditches and culverts could flow into roadways. |
