PM WEDNESDAY: WV HAS HUGE 262 NEW COVID-19 CASES

West Virginia had a huge jump in coronavirus numbers Wednesday with a daily total of 262 new cases reported and another virus-related death.

The report might not include seven new cases Wednesday morning.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources said in a news release that the state now has a total of 5,461 virus cases and has had its 102nd death. DHHR officials confirmed that a 79-year-old man from Fayette County has died.

A total of 1,594 cases.

West Virginia’s overall positive test rate continued to creep up and now stands at 2.21%. The daily positive test rate was at 2.48%.

More than 247,000 tests have been conducted.

Hospitalizations were listed at 78, with 33 in intensive care and 16 on a ventilator. According to the DHHR's website, 3,765 have recovered from the virus.
