CLERK SIMERS SAYS MANY WAYS TO VOTE - 949 Absentee Ballots Returned

(06/03/2020)
Calhoun Clerk Jean Simers said, "As of today, May 29, 2020 we have mailed 1,342 absentee ballots and 959 have been returned. Just a reminder that absentee ballots must be received in the clerk’s office by Canvass Day which is June 15, 2020.

First day of early voting, May 27, 2020 there were 29 voters and the second day, May 28, 2020 there were 23."

Simers said, "In these uncertain times, the voter has many options to vote in the upcoming primary election."

Postcards were mailed to all registered voters and if they chose they could receive an absentee ballot by mail.

However, there are other ways to vote. Early voting started May 27 and will continue through June 6. Early voting is in the old jail building with weekday hours from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Saturday hours (May 30 and June 6) are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

You can also vote on election day June 9, 2020 – we are making every effort to make sure the poll workers and the voters are safe. You can wear a mask Also, if you returned your postcard to receive an absentee ballot and have not returned it you can still early vote by bringing your ballot to the early voting site or vote on election day, just remember to bring your absentee ballot so it can be destroyed.

If you have already voted your absentee ballot and choose to early vote or vote on election day, you can still do that also.

You will be required to vote a provisional ballot. This is to eliminate the possibility of a person voting twice.

Simers says there is some confusion regarding absentee voting – you must return your postcard with your signature requesting an absentee ballot, it is not automatically mailed to you.

Wednesday, June 3rd is the last day we can mail absentee ballots to voters. If you do not want to vote an absentee ballot, just discard the postcard and vote however you choose.
