James P. (J.P.) Morrison, 81, of Marietta, Ohio, formerly of Big Springs, Calhoun County,
West Virginia, died Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was a resident
of Heartland Nursing Home of Marietta.
He was born November 20, 1921 at Freed, WV a son of the late Frank and Effie Smith
Morrison. He was a member of the Prosperity Baptist Church at Big Springs, WV. He
graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1941. He worked for many years in the oil
fields and retired from Buckeye Oil.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Marie Morrison of Marietta, three sons, Melvin and his wife
Sharon of Smithville, WV, Weldon and his wife, Lynn of Springfield, Ohio and Marshall of
McConnelsville, Ohio; four daughters, Linda Daggett and her husband Hollie of Veto, Ohio,
Ioka Echard and her husband, Tom of Valley Mills, WV, Anna Swain and her husband Dean of
Murrysville, WV and Helen Irvin and her husband Richard of Waterford, Ohio; three step-sons,
Richard Rouse of Charlotte, NC, Robert Rouse and his wife, Kim of Portland, OR and Tim
Ross and his wife, Mary Ellen of Charleston, WV. Also surviving are one sister, Eloise Mullens
of Glenville, WV; 21 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 3
step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ada Mae Williams Morrison, one
great-granddaughter, four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Prosperity Baptist Church
with Rev. Ken Heiney and Rev. Frank Plybon officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion
Cemetery near Brohard, WV. Visitation will be held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, WV
on Monday, March 10 from 2 to 8 p.m.
