West Virginia has had another COVID-19-related death, bringing the stateâs death total to 72.
The state Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed in a news release Friday the latest death was a 54-year-old man from Lewis County.
Meanwhile, the stateâs overall virus total jumped 89 cases, from 1,616 to 1,705. One reason for the increase in numbers is the state is now including probable cases in its data.
It was not clear if the 89 cases included 13 cases in the morning briefing.
There are 29 cases at Huttonsville Correctional Center, and one case at Sharpe Hospital in Weston.
According to the DHHRâs website, the state has 1,668 confirmed cases and 37 probable cases. There have been 1,107 people who have recovered from the virus. Currently, there are 526 active cases.
There are currently 39 hospitalized with 11 in the intensive care unit and nine on a ventilator.
