Jaelyn Jett and Addison McCumbers
Two students competed in West Virginiaâs National History Day (NHD) State Competition. High School student Jaelyn Jett and Middle School student Addison McCumbers took their months of research and practice to win the stateâs championship in their respective age group (Senior and Junior) and category (performance).
The first word from one of the three judges after Jett's performance was "brilliant," then able to relax as more positive comments and praise came from all three judges for both Jett and McCumbers.
Judges included the Director of Public History and Associate Professor of History at West Virginia University; a previous NHD competitor who had placed 2nd in the nation; and a WVU Grad Student in WVU"s History Program.
Students will now continue to prepare for the national competition in June. All competitions for 2020 are conducted virtually.
