PM TUESDAY: ANOTHER COVID-19 DEATH - 16 New Cases, Numbers Dropping To Re-Open Says Governor

Another COVID-19-related death has been reported in West Virginia, bringing the state’s overall death total to 38.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed in a news release Tuesday the death of a 50-year old woman from Jefferson County.

Meanwhile, the state’s overall positive virus test rate remained below 3 percent for the second consecutive day. At 5 p.m., the rate of positive tests compared to the amount of tests given was at 2.64%. The latest numbers are significant because Gov. Jim Justice announced that if the state has three consecutive days below 3%, with Wednesday being the final day, the state can fully start phase one of its economic recovery on Thursday.

The state’s overall number of positive cases increased 16 from Tuesday morning, with a total of 1,095.

According to the DHHR, 504 people have recovered. The latest statistics show that 102 are hospitalized, with 21 on a ventilator in the intensive care unit and 19 in ICU.

More than 41,500 tests have been given.
