WV NEXT TO WORST STATE IN RESPONSE TO US CENSUS

(04/17/2020)
WV is second only to Alaska in participating in the US Census 2020 count, although census deadlines are being extended.

Having an accurate census is vital to rural WV counties related to the distribution of federal money, and the number of congresspersons assigned to districts.

Calhoun's district is likely to lose a congressperson.

Around 29 percent of West Virginia households have an “unmailable address” and state officials working on the 2020 U.S. Census response believe that is a major reason why numbers remain low.

Jill Upson, the Executive Director of the Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs and member of the state’s Complete Count Commission told MetroNews that the census has been unable to get enumerators out into the field to those addresses because of the COVID-19 social distancing restrictions.

WV voters are among the worst to cast their ballots in federal elections.
