McGraw Brothers "Of One Blood Are All People" is a recently released book by Dr. Jorea Marple, a Braxton County native, that provides insight to why resource rich West Virginia is last in so many indicators reflecting quality of life including wellness, education economic security and living conditions.
In West Virginia, generation after generation, political decisions support the maintaining of a defined wealth that negatively impacts schools, social and health resources, roads, housing, jobs, the judicial system and government.
All too often leaders of coal, drug, tobacco, insurance and other powerful companies frame their message to appear to embrace the hopes and dreams of West Virginians who produce but seldom enjoy, an equitable share of the wealth they create.
For more than a century those same corporate interests lend financial and material support to elect officials whom, once in office, do their bidding.
This phenomenon is not unique to West Virginia but is important for all citizens to understand how it effects elections and state government throughout the nation.
