Danny Ray Shafer, 70, of Walton, died March 12, 2020, at CAMC General Hospital, Charleston, after a sudden illness.
He was born May 11, 1949, at Walton, the son of the late Oscar and Myrtle Moore Shafer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Rev. Charles M. Shafer, Curry Z. "Buck" Shafer, Jerry L. Shafer, Murry W. "Tiny" Shafer and Kenny "Gene" Shafer; sisters, Mary Looney, Sybil Ascher and Lessie Gay Irvine.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Ashworth Shafer; son and daughter-in-law, Billy Ray and Christine Shafer of Reedy; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Wayne Cummings of Elkview; brother, James Shafer also of Elkview; six grandchildren, Amber Wilson, Josh Shafer, Stephanie Shafer, Jessica Hughes, Matthew Shafer and Kaitlyn Shafer; great grandchildren, Ethan Marks, Payton Pauley and Lilly Elswick.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17 at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer. Burial will be at Rocky Branch Cemetery, Walton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral.
