CALHOUN HIGH BURNS TO GROUND IN 1942 - Little Seen Photos

(07/30/2024)
It was after midnight February 21, 1942 that Calhoun County High School burned in the early morning hours. Fire broke out in the basement and quickly spread throughout the structure.

Grantsville did not have a fire department, only a hose cart used to clean the streets. The entire structure was gutted, but the walls remained structurally sound and were used to rebuild the facility.

These photos have been little seen, with a number of other stories and photos on the Hur Herald.
