West Virginia residents without a passport will need a REAL ID by October 1st, if they plan to travel by plane or enter a federal building, according to the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles.
"Basically that was brought about because of the events of 9/11, because the terrorists, hijackers, had obtained so many IDs fraudulently," said Natalie Holcomb, Public Information Specialist for the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles.
Holcomb said the Mountain State has been REAL ID compliant since 2012. The process is mapped out online, in a section of the DMV's website.
