To date the West Virginia University Extension Service in Roane Counties only has nine applicants for the Extension Master Gardener training program that was set to take place at the Roane County Library in Spencer beginning Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

If enough participants are interested, training would be held on Wednesday evenings from 6 PM to 9 PM beginning February 26 through April 29, 2020, with additional course work or training dates through early May 2020. Classes will be held at the Roane County Library.

There must have at least ten approved applicants to offer the classes. There will be a course fee $70 with partial scholarships available. Participants must complete 40 hours of training, pass an exam, and provide 40 hours of approved volunteer work to become a certified West Virginia Extension Master Gardener.

The training is open to residents in Roane County and all the surrounding counties. The training provides gardeners with the opportunity to improve their horticultural knowledge and skills and then share their experience with the public through organized volunteer activities.

The program topics covered include: botany, plant problem diagnosis, soils, ornamentals, pest management, fruits, vegetables, and plant propagation. Contact your local WVU Extension office at 304-927-0975, or e-mail Extension Agent Brandy Brabham at brandy.brabham@mail.wvu.edu to get an application for these classes today.  Applications will be accepted now through Friday, February 14, 2020.
