William Paul "Bill" Higgins, Jr., 85, of Elizabeth WV, departed this world for his eternal home with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, Nov. 24, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born in Wood County on April 13, 1934, a son of the late Reverend Paul and Alberta Lowe Higgins. He was the grandson of the late William Newton and Theodocia Lee Higgins and Floyd and Melissa Cooper Lowe.
He was a member of the New Home Methodist Church and also attended the Elizabeth Baptist Church. He served for many years as superintendent at both Wesleyan Chapel and New Home. He loved to sing and often led the singing at both churches.
He was a graduate of Wirt County High School in 1952 and retired from GE Plastics after 29½ years.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Delcie Belle Ott Higgins; three children, Randy (Lois) Higgins, Robyn Dillon and Rhonda (Darrell) Null; eight grandchildren, Stacey (Ron) Cox, Charity (Jeremy) Vincent, Brandy (Donald) Sheppard, Andrew Dillon, Daniel (Amber) Dillon, Tracy (Jared) Galloway, Kelly (Denton) Bell, Katie (Kalob) Bell and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Rosalie Duckworth.
Funeral services will be held at Matheny Whited Funeral Home in Elizabeth on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at the K of P Cemetery in Elizabeth. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the funeral home.
