For the fourth year in a row, the Red Devils placed first in the Class AA-A Regional Wrestling Tournament on February 21
and
22 at Herbert Hoover High School.
Team scores were: Calhoun 202 (9 qualifiers); Point Pleasant 199 (10); Roane Co.
171 (9); Herbert Hoover 167 ½ (7); Clay Co. 113 (4); Winfield 93 (3); Sissonville 86 (5); Ravenswood 73 (3); Richwood
49 (1), Wahama 31 (1).
State Qualifiers for Calhoun are: Bryan Gungle - 2nd place - 103 lbs.; Justin Ashley - 1st place - 125 lbs.; Andrew
Cummins - 2nd place - 130 lbs.; Justin Price - 3rd place - 135 lbs.; Paul Goodrich - 2nd place - 140 lbs.; Eric Metz - 1st
place - 145 lbs.; Jeff Morris - 1st place - 152 lbs.; Damon Merola - 3rd place - 160 lbs.; Ray Burge - 1st place - 171
lbs.
Justin Ashley was named Most Outstanding Wrestler.
The State Tournament will be held at Huntington Civic Center February 27 - March 1.
