Calhoun County has consistently had low health rankings in a state that has ranked in the bottom 10 of the most unhealthy states in the nation. Statistics like these can be daunting to consider, but that can be changed.
Health means much more than simply not being sick. To improve Calhoun County's health statistics, we must break down silos that separate improving health from the work of education, business, transportation, economic development, etc. Health care organizations and public health must join with schools, faith-based organizations, businesses, economic development groups, and other community partners to make the "healthy choice the easy choice" in communities throughout Calhoun County.
A group of Calhoun County organizations and residents have begun the process of working together to improve the health of Calhoun County's residents through an initiative called, free school meal eligibility in jeopardy in W.Va., Department of Education says.
