Claude Emmett Painter, 76 of Chloe, formerly of Bramwell, died
February 27 at Roane General
Hospital, Spencer.
Born on September 2, 1924, in Bramwell, he was the son of the late
John S. and Mary Helen
Shupe Painter.
Mr. Painter had been a resident of Chloe for 10 years and was retired
from the city department
of Bramwell and was a school bus driver. He was a veteran of the U.S.
Army serving during
WW II. He was a member of Bramwell Presbyterian Church.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Shrewsbury Painter,
two infant sons and a
brother, Richard Painter.
Surviving Mr. Painter are his wife, Betty Chumbley Painter, daughter
Debbie Ratliff of Kansas
City Mo.; sisters, Mary Helen Cornett and husband McKinley of
Bluefield, and Jenny Lee
Painter of Roanoke, Va.; brother Clarence E. Painter of Charleston;
granddaughter, Natasha
Ratliff; stepdaughter, Cheryl Basnett and husband Roger of Calhoun
County; stepson, Earl
Kent of Fincastle, Va.
Services were at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 2nd. at Cravens-Shires
Funeral Home, Bluewell,
Rev. Dale Compton officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park
Cemetery, Bluewell.
