CHARLESTON BEATING-SHOOTING - Charleston police say three people were arrested in a shooting and beating early Sunday morning on Kanawha Boulevard.

Around 2 a.m. Sunday, Charleston police saw multiple people arguing in the 800 block of Kanawha Boulevard near Capitol Street and then heard gunshots coming from the area, a release from the Charleston Police Department said.

As officers ran toward the area, the release said they saw two men who were stomping and kicking a man who was lying on the ground. The two suspects, who were identified as Jhaquier H. Ballard-Maxwell, 25, of St. Albans and Charles M. Tyson, 25, of Charleston tried to run, but were immediately detained.

While assisting the victim, police found a handgun that was lying next to him.

The victim told police his wallet and necklace had been stolen during the incident. Police were able to locate the necklace, but not the wallet. The victim suffered injuries to his face, head and body but refused to be taken to the hospital for treatment. his name has not been released at this time.

A third suspect in the altercation, James D. Foster, 26, of Charleston, was later detained as he walked across Kanawha Boulevard. The release said he told police he had been shot in the foot.

Ballard-Maxwell, Tyson, and Foster are all charged with first-degree robbery. During the arrest, the release said police recovered suspected methamphetamine from Foster and suspected Marijuana from Ballard-Maxwell.

Ballard-Maxwell and Tyson are being held in the South Central Regional Jail on $25,000 bond. Foster was taken to the hospital for treatment.
