Officials with Allegheny and American Electric Power hope to have all service restored by early this week, although some crews say the damage is so severe in some sections, it may take longer.
More than 100,000 customers statewide were at one time without electricity following this past weekend's winter storm. The numbers are down to 15,000.
Allegheny Power company spokesman Alan Staggers says Roane, Calhoun, Nicholas, Webster, Upshur and Lewis counties were the hardest hit.
AEP spokesman Phil Moye says 8,000 of the nearly 9,000 still without power are in Jackson and Mason counties. Moye says the damage has been almost as much as tornado damage with downed lines and trees.
