From Wheeling Register 1874
Drowned in the Little Kanawha river, Calhoun County, W. V., April 5, 1874, a little son of Absalom and Edith Huffman, aged a little over three years.
He was a bright-eyed and lovely boy. His loss is deeply mourned by his parents and all that knew him.
TO THE PARENTS OF LITTLE JOHHNY
(Written by his grandfather)
The little feet that followed them,
That voice that such music gave;
The little hands and cheeks thou has so often pressed,
Lie silent in the grave.
They'll never toil through weary years,
Nor breath for anguish free;
They'll never shed those bitter tears,
That grief has rung from thee.
His blessed spirit has flown away,
Too pure to linger here;
A little longer you must stay,
And then you'll meet him there.
Among the saints in paradise,
His shining will dwell,
And calmly wait the appointed hour,
'Till you shall meet him there.
