The Calhoun Sheriff's Office has released the following statement concerning the incident on 8/19/19 at Calhoun Middle/High School:
On 8/19/19, the Prevention Resource Officer of the Calhoun County Sheriffâs Office was informed by school personnel of a reported threat of violence by one student against other students and that the student who made the alleged threat had been called back to the school.
Out of concern for the safety of staff and students, the PRO called for assistance in an attempt to alert all departments of an active situation at the school involving a potential threat.
Radio traffic was overheard and information concerning the threat began being publicized. This incident was taken seriously by all involved and the situation was resolved with no attempt to injure any student.
The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office apologizes for any inconvenience caused and is looking into additional training opportunities to provide better ways to handle such incidents in the future.
